The time has come for fewer people in the chorus and more people singing for what needs to be done

5 Easy Steps to a Happy Life

1. Compliment a Stranger

Make someone else feel good about themselves. Pick something small, and share your positive thoughts with a stranger daily.

2. Smile

Easily one of the most underrated actions someone can do. Not only does a smile improve your mood, but enlightens those around you. Share this with your friends, family & co-workers.

3. Say Hello

Why is it that you have to keep to yourself? Ask a stranger about their day. After all, you never know who you might meet.

4. Don’t Judge

It is so easy to judge someone, we are all guilty of it. Realize that not everyone is going to have a great day. Understand this and do your best to stay positive for yourself and others.

5. Stop Saying No

No is such a short and powerful word. Two letters that can end any opportunity in seconds. I’ll expand on this further in our next post.

Why Happiness Isn’t Out There

What is the meaning of life? Our life? This is one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves at least once, if not many times, in our life. Today, right now, what is your answer? Many people say peace, happiness. These are states of being I beleive connect us to the force of Love flowing through all living beings of the universe. They are powerful states of being and often times are all too fleeting despite our best efforts to maintain them in our lives. Why is this?

We have the relationships we nurture, children we raise., pets we take care of, and friends we make time for. These people in our life may be happy but they are not our happiness. We have the cars we drive, TVs we watch, and houses we live in. The clothes we dress ourselves with, cologne we wear, and shoes we buy. These things we buy may be sanctuaries of peace but they are not our peace. Happiness and peace exist all around us but the happiness and peace that lasts forever only exist inside us. It is found by following the voice in our heart that knows who we are and what we want.

When we do things for others, even acts of love, but go against our heart’s voice we take away our feeling of happiness. When we buy things for ourselves but our heart doesn’t want them we take away our feeling of peace. When we go out with friends who don’t have our best interests at heart we come back more empty than when we left. When we spend away our hearts goals and dreams we push away peace farther than we can reach next time we try.

Take away everything you tell yourself you want. Everything you tell yourself will make you happy.  Now think not with your head, but feel the longing in heart. Spend 5 minutes every day feeling the longing in your heart and you will find lasting happiness. You will find lasting peace. Our heart and soul only crave one thing and that one thing is Love. Our potential for eternal Peace, Love, and Happiness begins by Loving ourselves.

To be happier, you have to think about feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right, in an atmosphere of growth.

Second Splendid Truth
One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy;
One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself.

Third Splendid Truth
The days are long, but the years are short. (Click here to see my one-minute movie; of everything I’ve written about happiness, I think this video resonates most with people.)

Fourth Splendid Truth
You’re not happy unless you think you’re happy.
(Many argue the opposite case. John Stuart Mill, for example, wrote, “Ask yourself whether you are happy, and you cease to be so.” I disagree.)

1. Make peace with your past so it wont screw up the present.

1. Planning

Create the road map for where you are going, when you will get there, and how you will get there. Don’t know where to start? Read this

2. Starting

It is easy to get stuck in perpetual planning mode. Fear’s favorite vice is procrastination. Start by setting yourself a timer for 20 – 40 minutes. Tell yourself you are going to work without distraction (no phone, email, Facebook, food, or any other distraction). When the timer goes off get up and give yourself a quick break then set your time for another 40 minutes. Intense focus for short durations of time maximizes productivity. 

3. Following Through

If you are not where you wish you were in life it’s probably not from a lack of opportunity, but rather a lack of follow through. Starting is easy. What makes you successful if follow through. And if you want to quit, re-read this blog, and you won’t.

It’s not what you take away but what you add to life that matters 

1. Add Appreciation

Add appreciation for what is beautiful in life. See symmetry in flowers. Hear the friendliness in a hello. Taste the nuance of a well prepared meal. Appreciate the beauty around you and  beauty will begin to find you.

2. Add Gratitude 

Add gratitude for the life you have: the people who accept you for who you are, the car that got you to your job, the clothes you have to keep you warm. Add gratitude and happiness will begin to find you.

3. Add Friendliness 

Add warm eye contact and a smile for random people you see. Add a kind favor for someone in need. Add a greeting when least expected. Add friendliness and friendly people will begin to find you.

Once you add enough positivity to your life there will be no more room for negativity and the beauty in life will become clear. It’s not what you take away but what you add to your life that is important.

1. Condition your mind.

Train yourself to think positive thoughts while avoiding negative thoughts.

2. Condition your body.

It takes physical energy to take action. Get your food and exercise budget in place and follow it like a business plan.

3. Avoid negative people.

They drain your energy and waste your time, so hanging with them is like shooting yourself in the foot.

4. Seek out the similarly motivated.

Their positive energy will rub off on you and you can imitate their success strategies.

5. Have goals–but remain flexible.

No plan should be cast in concrete, lest it become more important than achieving the goal.

6. Act with a higher purpose.

Any activity or action that doesn’t serve your higher goal is wasted effort–and should be avoided.

7. Take responsibility for your own results.

If you blame (or credit) luck, fate or divine intervention, you’ll always have an excuse.

8. Stretch past your limits on a daily basis.

Walking the old, familiar paths is how you grow old. Stretching makes you grow and evolve.

9. Don’t wait for perfection; do it now!

Perfectionists are the losers in the game of life. Strive for excellence rather than the un-achievable.

10. Celebrate your failures.

Your most important lessons in life will come from what you don’t achieve. Take time to understand where you fell short.

11. Don’t take success too seriously.

Success can breed tomorrow’s failure if you use it as an excuse to become complacent.

12. Avoid weak goals.

Goals are the soul of achievement, so never begin them with “I’ll try …” Always start with “I will” or “I must.”

13. Treat inaction as the only real failure.

If you don’t take action, you fail by default and can’t even learn from the experience.

14. Think before you speak.

Keep silent rather than express something that doesn’t serve your purpose.
