5 Easy Steps to a Happy Life

5 Easy Steps to a Happy Life

1. Compliment a Stranger

Make someone else feel good about themselves. Pick something small, and share your positive thoughts with a stranger daily.

2. Smile

Easily one of the most underrated actions someone can do. Not only does a smile improve your mood, but enlightens those around you. Share this with your friends, family & co-workers.

3. Say Hello

Why is it that you have to keep to yourself? Ask a stranger about their day. After all, you never know who you might meet.

4. Don’t Judge

It is so easy to judge someone, we are all guilty of it. Realize that not everyone is going to have a great day. Understand this and do your best to stay positive for yourself and others.

5. Stop Saying No

No is such a short and powerful word. Two letters that can end any opportunity in seconds. I’ll expand on this further in our next post.

The Eight Splendid Truths of Happiness

The Eight Splendid Truths of Happiness

First Splendid Truth
To be happier, you have to think about feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right, in an atmosphere of growth.

Second Splendid Truth
One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy;
One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself.

Third Splendid Truth
The days are long, but the years are short. (Click here to see my one-minute movie; of everything I’ve written about happiness, I think this video resonates most with people.)

Fourth Splendid Truth
You’re not happy unless you think you’re happy.
(Many argue the opposite case. John Stuart Mill, for example, wrote, “Ask yourself whether you are happy, and you cease to be so.” I disagree.)

Fifth Splendid Truth
I can build a happy life only on the foundation of my own nature.

Sixth Splendid Truth
The only person I can change is myself.

Seventh Splendid Truth
Happy people make people happy, but
I can’t make someone be happy, and
No one else can make me happy.

Eighth Splendid Truth
Now is now. (For more on this truth, read the last chapter of Happier at Home. I love writing endings, and if I may say so, endings are my forte, and this is the best ending I’ve ever written.)

3 Steps for a Happier Life: Repeat Daily

1. Stop and Think

This can be a 15 minute meditation, short walk down to the end of the block, a trip to the restroom, or anywhere you have time for unabated reflection.

2.  Reflect Gratefully

There are so many things, people, places, and experiences we can be grateful for. Pick one thing and reflect on it.

3. Smile

Imagine yourself full of love and kindness. Now let this love and kindness shoot out in beams from your smile.

7 Cardinal Rules in Life

7 Cardinal Rules in Life

1. Make peace with your past so it wont screw up the present.

2. What others think of you is none of your business.

3. Time heals almost everything, give it time.

4. Don’t compare your life to others & don’t judge them. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

5. Stop thinking so much, it’s alright not to know the answers. They will come to you when you least expect it.

6. No one is in charge of your happiness, except you.

7. Smile. You don’t own all the problems in the world.

It’s Not What You Take Away but What You Add

well, words of balance, balance, creation, fitness, believe, health, motivate, motivation, inspire, inspiration, succeed, success

It’s not what you take away but what you add to life that matters

1. Add Appreciation

Add appreciation for what is beautiful in life. See symmetry in flowers. Hear the friendliness in a hello. Taste the nuance of a well prepared meal. Appreciate the beauty around you and  beauty will begin to find you.

2. Add Gratitude

Add gratitude for the life you have: the people who accept you for who you are, the car that got you to your job, the clothes you have to keep you warm. Add gratitude and happiness will begin to find you.

3. Add Friendliness

Add warm eye contact and a smile for random people you see. Add a kind favor for someone in need. Add a greeting when least expected. Add friendliness and friendly people will begin to find you.

Once you add enough positivity to your life there will be no more room for negativity and the beauty in life will become clear. It’s not what you take away but what you add to your life that is important.

5 Ways to Give More of Your Heart Today

1. Say less about yourself and notice more about others

2. Find the gleam in someones’ eye and hold it with a smile

3. Do something no one expects you to do and do it gladly

4. When someone challenges you, stop and seek to completely understand their point of view

5. Write an anonymous thank you and leave it for someone least expecting and most deserving

3 Investments To Make Right Now For a Better Life

3 Investments To Make Right Now For a Better Life

1. Invest In Love

Love is a renewable resource. In fact the more love you cultivate in your life the more love you will find in the world. Invest in love today by committing right here, right now, to loving yourself and your future will be filled with love.

2.  Invest In Time

Time is a scare resource with only so many seconds in a minute, minutes in an hour, and hours in a day. Every minute you are either doing something on purpose or off purpose. Map out your ideal day when you wake up and revisit it before going to bed. Over the course of a week or two your wasted time will start to be filled with those activities that are most meaningful to you.

3. Invest In Health

Our body is a temple. When we take care of it, nourish it, and rest well, it performs the way it should, no coffee, no energy drinks, and no sleeping pills needed. Instead of trying to get more things finished with less sleep, get more things finished with a full night’s sleep.
