10 Ways to Start Caring a Whole Awful Lot

1. Take a Stance

Take a stance on an issue you are passionate about. Hopefully the outcome will result in making the world a better, happier, more peaceful place.

2. Read

Knowledge is power. Learn the truth, the history, and the arguments both for and against. Be able to argue the other side better then they can and your own arguments will be that much stronger.

3. Listen

Listen to experts at events, on TED, at schools, universities, and community classes. Listen to your friends. Listen to their arguments and seek to understand their perspective.

4. Talk

Share your knowledge with your friends, family, and colleagues. Get up on your soapbox and let your stance be heard.

5. Write

Put your thoughts on paper. Start a blog. Submit a column for your paper. Writing is the currency of ideas and allows them to be internalized by the readers when they are ready to receive them.

6. Create

Create videos, memes, pictures, sand art, sculptures and display it in public.

7. Share

Put your ideas out there for the world to see, hear, and feel. Use your art to instigate conversations and become the impetus for change.

8. Build

Build a community of people who support you. Start with a single believer and let your passion and creations inspire others to join your cause.

9. Commit

Give yourself a goal, a timeline, or a date to reach and commit to getting there. When that date arrives celebrate how far you have come and give yourself a new date to reach.

10. Persevere

Tell yourself right now that making the world a better place will be hard. But when it gets hard remind yourself: unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
